Liverpool midfield decisions, Hudson-Odoi, Rodrigo Moreno, and more: The Daily Transfer Round Up – Tuesday, July 4

Liverpool end Thuram interest, Lavia talks to begin

Still working to complete their midfield reconstruction, Liverpool have reportedly decided to end their interest in signing OGC Nice s Khephren Thuram. It appears that their acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai a few days ago played its part in that.

The Merseysiders, however, are said to be set to begin talks with Southampton over the possibility of signing Romeo Lavia, who is a target for Arsenal as well. This summer is probably the last chance Southampton will have to get more than £40 million for the services of the 19-year-old midfield pivot, given the buyback clause Manchester City forced on them when he left the Premier League champions in 2022, which is set at that amount and is valid from the summer of 2024.

Thiago Alcantara rejects Saudi approach

Staying with Liverpool and their midfield a bit more, a fresh report claims Thiago Alcantara has rejected a formal offer from Saudi Arabia.

The 32-year-old Spaniard, who played for Barcelona and Bayern Munich before joining the Reds in 2020, recently removed the club from his Instagram bio, which sparked strong speculations about his future, but it seems he isn t interested in moving to the Middle East at this point.

The offer is said to have come directly to Thiago and his representatives, with no approach made to Liverpool. Some believe it was made by Al-Ettifaq, who have just appointed former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as their manager.

Hudson-Odoi on Forest list

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea this summer.

The 22-year-old winger was heavily pursued by Bayern Munich several years ago, but at the time, he chose to remain at Chelsea. Facing the prospect of not playing regular football, he is now keen to leave Stamford Bridge to try and get his career back on track.

For their part, Chelsea won t stand in his way they are willing to do a deal, providing their conditions are met.

Everton interested in Rodrigo

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Rodrigo Moreno from Leeds United. However, the Toffees, who have apparently put a two-year contract on his table, will have to persuade their target to reject offers from Saudi Arabia to get it done.

The 32-year-old striker scored 13 goals in 31 Premier League matches in 2022/23, and that obviously wasn t enough to keep Leeds in the English top flight. With 12 months remaining on his contract, he is expected to leave Elland Road this summer, rather than spend the 2023/24 season playing in the Championship.

Leverkusen to sign Hofmann

According to German magazine Kicker, as later confirmed by Sky in Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen are on the verge of signing Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 30-year-old winger has two years left on his contract with Gladbach having the option to extend it buy another 12 months, but there is also a €10 million release clause in the deal which Leverkusen have decided to trigger.

Since joining Die Fohlen from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, Hofmann has scored 48 goals and laid on 51 assists in 214 games played in all competitions.
